Woody from ‘Toy Story’ is the Double attraction Icon This Identity festival Month Deserves
We’re only halfway through June 2019, and it’s already been one helluva of a Pride Month. First, the straights in Boston organized the world’s least fun parade. Then Taylor Swift—the alike Taylor Swift who, just three years ago, some suspected of voting for Trump—dropped a modern music video filled with queer pop culture icons. But I’m here to talk about my personal favorite moment of Pride 2019 so far: The proposal that Woody from Toy Story might be bisexual.
This morning, as I was perusing Google trends to discover the absolute leading headline for my latest hot scoop, “Is Toy Story on Netflix?“, I discovered that the top trend was not “toy story 4 release date.” Nor was it “toy story 4 opening day” or even “when does toy story 4 come out.” No, to my elated surprise the uppermost trend—for reasons that I can only assume are Event miracle-related—was: “is woody from toy story bisexual.”
I experience a myriad of emotions upon reading this. First, delight: People think Woody in Toy Story is bisexual? That’s incredible!
Is Woody from Toy Story 4 bisexual? Twitter users are in a fierce debate about this rumor—with many hoping it's true. (Spoiler alert: it's probably a hoax.)
The rumor started when the website NPC Daily posted an article with the headline, "Disney announces that Woody will be 'openly bisexual' in Toy Story 4," claiming that "Toy Story 4 will be the most inclusive installment of the franchise yet!"
The article, now archived, featured a screenshot of a tweet from Disney's verified Twitter account that read, "Great news for the LGBTQAIP community. A minute bird told us that Woody will be openly pansexual in Toy Story 4! He's got a friend in him!"
That tweet should have been the first tip-off that this story is a hoax. Does a "little bird" need to say Disney something about one of its own movies? Also, the tweet is nowhere to be found on Disney's Twitter feed.
Still not convinced? Just click the "About" section of NPC Daily to find the site's description. "NPC Daily is a satire site, providing political and cultural commentary with wanton sarcasm.
