AIDS has quietly caused the deaths of hundreds of Roman Catholic priests in the United States, although other causes may be listed on some of their death certificates, the Kansas City Celebrity reported today. The newspaper said its examination of death certificates and interviews with experts indicates several hundred priests have died of AIDS-related illnesses since the mid-1980s. The death rate of priests from AIDS is at least four times that of the general population, the newspaper said. Kansas Urban area Bishop Raymond Boland says the AIDS deaths show that priests are human.

“Gay” Priests and Indulgence of Homosexuality
Knowing that the Catholic Church has had many ups and downs in the course of its long history, I am confident – well, fairly confident – that it will eventually surface from its present slump. But this recovery won’t happen anytime soon. And so I, entity an old man, won’t inhabit to see it. That saddens me.
Have we hit bottom yet? If we have, I may live to see at least the beginning of the recovery. That would please me. But I fear we haven’t clap bottom. There may be worse to come.
But what can possibly be worse than what has already happened? Many things, among them a refusal to deal frankly with the issue of homosexuality in the priesthood and the episcopacy. I’m not speaking only of the horrendous issue of priests who are active homosexuals; I’m speaking also of clergy who, while not themselves homosexual, have an undue understanding for homosexuality.
I’m thinking of the fairly widespread tendency found among Church leaders to speak as though our problem is sexual “abuse,” not homosexuality. Certainly, the sexual exploitation or abuse of minors is a problem, a gigantic problem, an unspeakable horror. But clerical homosexual

Yes, Father Greiten said "we" members of the LGBTQ group. He is one of very rare openly gay priests.
When asked how many there are, he said, "I've always heard the number thrown out, like, ten of us, that are really out there."
There are roughly 38,000 priests in America.

Father Greiten "came out" to his congregation in this Milwaukee suburb about three years ago, at age 51, when he announced, "I am a gay priest, and a celibate priest." This moment came after a lifetime of strife, serving a church that teaches that "acting on" lesbian feelings is a sin.
"I just desire to break the silence," he told Doane. "We're here. And for me, Seth, that was part of the hypocrisy that I was watching happen."
